The story of SILKtáge is really the story of Robin Emtage - hair stylist, makeup artist, and the rare photographer who styles her subjects herself. Robin has devoted her career to helping actresses and models look their best. Her work has appeared in such magazines as Allure, Cosmopolitan, Ebony, and GQ. Her clients have included Diana Ross, Caroline Kennedy, Christina Ricci, and Camryn Manheim.

In the course of her work, Robin noticed that most styling serums and oils in the marketplace were full of silicones, harsh chemicals, and preservatives, and her clients were sacrificing the health of their hair for the sake of this temporary "chemical shine." "This frustration led me on a quest to find a natural alternative to work with," says Robin, "something truly pure and natural that would improve the health of one's hair while making it silky, smooth, and shiny." After many fruitless searches for a pure hair styling product, Robin decided to make her own.

"To create a formula that didn't leave a greasy after-feel, one that absorbs quickly into the hair, and creates abundant shine, I ended up taking many trips up and down the aisles of health food stores. There, I discovered a collection of pure, unprocessed oils and botanicals from Japan, Tahiti, India, and other parts of the world. I began playing with them in my kitchen and after a lot of trial and error, I came up the formula which eventually became SILKtáge. I immediately used it on my own hair as well as my clients' hair. They loved it so much, they wanted it bottled up to take home." Finding a cosmetic lab to replicate her formula perfectly was her next hurdle, but her effort succeeded and Emtage Hair was born...

Robin named her signature product SILKtáge. "Silk," because Camellia Oil is often called "liquid silk." The "táge" in SILKtáge derives, of course, from her name—a token of her personal commitment to her customers, to the health of their hair and skin, and to the health of the planet. As she says, "A part of myself is in every bottle of SILKtáge, and I give it with love!"
